Major work outcomes of Khon Kaen University
1. DHS System for Community Waste-Water Treatment The DHS system is a community waste-water treatment technology that is economical and practical. Research on its application has been conducted in KKU with the cooperation from the NJS Consultant Co. Ltd., the Sanki Engineering Co. Ltd., Tohoku University, and Nakaoga University of Technology under the support of Japan’s Ministry of Land Infrastructure Transport and Tourism, MLT in the Wonder of Wastewater Technology of Japan Project. The first DHS waste-water treatment system installed in Thailand is the one at the Bueng Kasi Korn Thung Srang. The system can support the treatment of waste-water from community of 400-1,600 populations. The system first started running on November 16, 2019.
2. Excellence in Solving Eutrophication Problems in Fresh Water Faculty of Public Health has invited experts from Sweden to come to Thailand and meet with the Local Administrative Offices to discuss the Eutrophication problem and find its solution. From a case study at Bueng Kee in Ban Ped, Khon Kaen, using alum was recommended. Its usage should be the first in Thailand recommended by foreign experts.
3. Development of Environmental Management in the Savan-SENO area Faculty of engineering in cooperation with Savan-SENO, RPD Laos, and Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand organized a training program in basic knowledge for operators responsible for waste-water and waste-products from industry. The training aims to promote relationship between research and academic service, building up cooperation in solving natural resource and environmental problems, and to develop personnel of the Savan SENO the capacity of handling environmental problems. The training was given during 28-30 November 2019 at the Office of the Savan-SENO Special Economic Zone Authority, Laos PDR.
4. E-Waste Smart Bin: the First of Thailand This is an innovation created by the KKU Library in cooperation with the Advanced Wireless Network Co. Ltd. (AIS) who contributed the NB-IOT into the Smart Infrastructure project of the university. The idea came from that of the Smart Library that wanted to dispose Electronic Rubbish properly to minimize their effects on the environment. This innovation is the first of its kind in Thailand. The E-Waste Smart Bin will be installed in more than 1000 universities all over Thailand. The E-rubbish,such as mobile phone, computer parts, etc. will be recycled properly afterward.
