IRDTP KKU

Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, Khonkaen University


In 2002,

Lesson Study incorporating Open Approach innovation was introduced in Thailand with the collaboration between Khon Kaen University (KKU) and the University of Tsukuba, Japan.

In 2003,

the Faculty of Education instigated a progressive institutional development by expanding research results with the support from APEC Human Resources Development Working Group.

In 2004,

the Center for Research in Mathematics Education (CRME) was established with the support from the Faculty of Education.

In 2006,

Khu Kham Phithaya San and Chonnabot School were the pioneer schools to adopt the Lesson Study and Open Approach innovations assisted by CRME.

In 2007,

the CRME was recognized as a specialized research center of KKU

In 2008,

the National Centre for Excellence in Mathematics was established

In 2009,

the Office of the Higher Education Commission in collaboration with the Office of the Basic Education Commission, Khon Kaen University, Chiang Mai University, and Ubon Ratchathani University have successfully promoted the Lesson Study and Open Approach innovations through the project of teacher professional development in Mathematics. The expansion of Lesson Study and Open Approach implementation was from 4 to 23 pilot schools located in the North East and the Northern regions of Thailand with 13 and 6 schools respectively.

In 2010,

the cluster of research and human development under the National Research University Program was established, aiming to enhance the quality of basic education.

In 2014,

the establishment of the Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN (IRDTP) under the administration of Khon Kaen University President’s Office. Asst. Prof. Dr. Maitree Inprasitha was appointed as the acting Director of the IRDTP

In 2015,

Mr. Preecha Kruewan and Assistant Professor Kiat Saengarun were appointed as acting Deputy Directors for Administration of the IRDTP

In 2016,

Assoc. Prof. Jumpol Rachvijit was appointed as an acting Deputy Director for Academic Services of the IRDTP

In 2017,

The new building of IRDTP has started its construction.

In 2018 - present,

IRDTP continued to collaborate with the University of Tsukuba, Japan in research and innovation development mainly focusing on the needs of human resource development for the 21st century. The Center for Research on International Cooperation in Educational Development (CRICED) was allocated on the 1st floor of IRDTP to act as the research center for international cooperation.
