The 16th National Open Class TLSOA

Center for Research in Mathematics Education (CRME), Khon Kaen University cooperated with
the Center of Excellence in Mathematics (CEM),
Equitable Education Fund (EEF),
Education Foundation for Development of Thinking Skills (EDTS),
Thailand Society of Mathematics Education (TSMEd),
and Buddharaksa Foundation
to conduct the 16th National Open Class in corresponding to the policy of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation in the planning for concrete national manpower and teacher development.

   The Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession (IRDTP) for ASEAN and Center for Research in Mathematics Education (CRME), Khon Kaen University cooperated with the Center of Excellence in Mathematics (CEM), Equitable Education Fund (EEF), Education Foundation for Development of Thinking Skills (EDTS), Thailand Society of Mathematics Education (TSMEd), and Buddharaksa Foundation to conduct the 16th National Open Class in corresponding to the policy of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation in the planning for concrete national manpower and teacher development.

   March 18-19, 2023 (Thailand time 8.00 to 16.00 hours) – The 16th National Open Class was held in a hybrid format. A total of 1804 participants with 608 and 1196 from various categories in the teaching profession at National and International involved on-site and online respectively. This 16th National Open Class was organized by the Education and Academic Service Section, IRDTP for ASEAN, CRME Khon Kaen University in collaboration with Education Foundation for Thinking Skill Development, Mathematics Study Association, Mathematics Excellence Center, and Education Equity Fund. This National Open Class was the first time for the National Institute for School Teachers and Staff Development (NITS) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) from Japan participated as a keynote speaker and observers.

   A total of eight Open Classes have been organized as a mentoring and coaching mechanism to support teachers in delivering high-quality teaching by practicing the TLSOA model hence promoting effective teaching strategies to nurture students’ independent learning. During the 16th National Open Class, the teachers from various provinces in throughout Thailand met to debrief and reflect on what worked well and what could be improved after observing the Open Class. The focus of this Open Class training is not only on improving the lesson itself but also on deepening teachers’ understanding of the subject matter and students’ ideas development.
