Khon Kaen Launches Pioneering "Khon Kaen Open Class" Sparking New Educational Concepts at the Local Level

June 7, 2025

Khon Kaen Province is moving forward to elevate Thai education by organizing the "1st Khon Kaen Open Class," creating a space for shared learning experiences among administrators, teachers, and educational networks. This marks a significant step in promoting the "Open Class" concept to become a new learning ecosystem that emphasizes "the learner's perspective" as the core of teaching and learning.

This historic forum is a major collaboration among various educational partners in Khon Kaen Province, led by Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, Khon Kaen University, Education for Developing Thinking Skills Foundation, and Center for Research in Mathematics Education. The primary support comes from the Equitable Education Fund (EEF) under the 2024 Area-Based Self-Developing Schools (TSQM-A) project in Khon Kaen Province, underscoring a commitment to sustainable educational development at the regional level.

"Khon Kaen Open Class" is the first province in Thailand to initiate and push for collaborative learning within classrooms across all areas. Its firm objective is to elevate the quality of Thai education and provide an opportunity for all stakeholders to see a clear, real-world picture of the learner-centered learning process. Furthermore, it reflects the transition to a new educational system that is truly rooted in the local context and needs, creating learning that is responsive and effectively enhances the potential of local learners.
