The Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN (IRDTP), Khon Kaen University (KKU), in collaboration with the Korea National University of Education (KNUE), Republic of Korea, organized the 2024 KNUE-KKU Teacher Training workshop under the theme "Reskill and Upskill to Enhance the Quality of Teacher Education in the Digital Era." The event took place from August 3-6, 2024, with support from UNESCO.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Pewpan Maleewong, M.D., Vice President for Research at Khon Kaen University, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Younghoon Kim, Director of the KNUE UNITWIN Program, KNUE, Asst. Prof. Phongthanat Sae-joo, Acting Director of IRDTP - KKU, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Inprasitha, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute.
This workshop is part of the "UNESCO KNUE UNITWIN" program, which has been ongoing since 2019, in collaboration with six universities across five countries: Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Indonesia; Khon Kaen University, Thailand; Souphanouvong University (SU), Laos; Vietnam National University-University of Education (VUN-UED), Vietnam; Mahidol University, Kanchanaburi Campus, Thailand; and University of the Philippines, Diliman (UPD), Philippines.
The program aims to enhance digital skills for educators in the 21st century, promote international cooperation in teacher education systems, and advance innovative teaching methods in the digital age. It also emphasizes sustainable development goals, specifically SDG4: Quality Education and SDG17: Partnerships for the Goals.
The workshop featured special lectures by renowned international experts from South Korea, Japan, Chile, and Thailand. It also included practical training on key topics such as developing digital textbooks for mathematics education, using ChatGPT in education, 4D frame technology, and computational thinking, along with open classroom activities.
Over 54 teachers, lecturers, and educators from across the country participated in the on-site activities at the Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, Khon Kaen University, with more than 100 participants joining online. This reflects a shared commitment to advancing the quality of education and the teaching profession in the digital era.
