Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN (IRDTP) Khon Kaen University (KKU) recently co-hosted a major "Open Class" event titled "Unlock & Decode: Translating Teaching into Student Outcomes" at Anuban Chaiyaphum School.
Held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the event saw participation from Asst. Prof. Dr. Pongtanut Saeju, Director of IRDTP-ASEAN, along with a team of KKU executives and experts. Anuban Chaiyaphum School, which serves as a provincial teacher development center for the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST), hosted the gathering.
IRDTP KKU played a crucial role in providing academic support, designing learning processes, facilitating classroom observations, and leading professional reflection sessions with participating teachers and attendees. The event drew a total of 135 participants, including students, teachers, school administrators, educational supervisors, and faculty members from across Thailand, attending both on-site and online.
The program commenced with an opening ceremony chaired by Sub Lt. Charun Chuchuen, Deputy Director of the Chaiyaphum Primary Educational Service Area Office 1. Asst. Prof. Dr. Phongthanat Sae-joo then introduced the concept and goals of the Open Class activity. Following this, Asst. Prof. Dr. Jiradawan Hantula provided guidance on effective classroom observation techniques and reflection methods to ensure a shared understanding before the practical observation sessions began.
The morning session featured observations of two Grade 4 classes. The first was a Science lesson on "Creating a Model of the Solar System," taught by Mr. Krittapas Boonyotha, with support from KKU experts including Asst. Prof. Dr. Jiradawan Hantula and Asst. Prof. Dr. Chaiyapong Ruangsuwan. The second was a Mathematics lesson titled "Whose Mouth is Wider?" taught by Ms. Srinuan Chanthapinit, supported by Asst. Prof. Dr. Narumon Changsri, Ms. Kamolchanok Japha, and Mr. Sittichai Polawut. These sessions allowed attendees to observe real-time classroom management before engaging in expert-led reflection activities.
Adding an international dimension, the event welcomed experts from Southwest University (SWU) in the People’s Republic of China, including Assoc. Prof. Jun Zhang and Assoc. Prof. Ju Huang. They participated in the reflection session, analyzing the teaching processes and exchanging academic perspectives, which enhanced the comparative learning experience for attendees.
The afternoon featured an on-site workshop focused on utilizing digital, student-centered teaching applications from Japan. Asst. Prof. Dr. Watchara Suyara, Assistant Director for International Relations and Corporate Communications at IRDTP-ASEAN, led this session alongside executives and developers of the Japanese application LoiLoNote School. The day concluded with presentations on learning management approaches for different subject groups, a summary of the activities, and an After Action Review (AAR).
This collaborative Open Class is a direct result of Anuban Chaiyaphum teachers participating in previous professional development programs organized by IRDTP KKU in 2023 and 2025. The event serves as a tangible example of how knowledge gained from professional teacher development can be successfully applied and scaled up in schools, fostering sustainable quality improvement in teaching and student learning outcomes through collaboration among teachers, experts, and academic networks both domestically and internationally.
