KKU Center for ASEAN Teaching Profession Research and Development joins schools in the North to develop
mathematics classrooms using the Lesson Study and Open Approach.
June 21-22, 2019 at Faculty fo Education, Chiangmai University – Khon Kaen University led by Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Maitree Indaraprasith, Acting Director of Center for ASEAN Teaching Profession Research and Development,
organized a workshop for schools under the network cooperation of the Center.
This workshop for schools under the Center for ASEAN Teaching Profession Research and Development was
on the use of a school textbook that is based on the Lesson Study and Open Approach in order to upgrade the
quality of mathematics classrooms. The workshop was carried out under the agreement made by institutions or
schools in the Northeast, the North, and the South.
On June 21, 2019 the workshop featured a talk on “Lesson Study and Open Approach innovations based on
a textbook that emphasizes problem solving and aims at upgrading the mathematics classroom qualities, a
workshop on “kyozai Kenkyu” design in the Lesson Study and Open Approach by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree
Indaraprasith, Acting Director of Center for ASEAN Teaching Profession Research and Development; President
of Mathematics Education Association, Director of Center for Mathematics Education Research Center; and
President of Thinking Skill Development Foundation.
The afternoon session was a workshop to train lesson plan writing according to “Kyozai Kenkyu” using the
example of Grade 1 classroom by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Indaraprasith, Acting Director of Center for ASEAN
Teaching Profession Research and Development; Asst. Prof. Dr. Janesamut Saengpan, a lecturer from
Chiangmai University; Ajarn Chanika Senawongsa and Ajarn Pimpaka Intaros, lecturers of Faculty of Sciences
from Lampang Rajabhat University
The 22nd of June sessions included Open Class activities according the Lesson Study andOpen Approach for
Grade 1 with pupils from Ban Pongnoi School, Chiangmai by Teacher warit Wannarat of Municipality School 3
(Boontawonganukoon) from Lampang; and the reflection activities of the learning outcomes cased on the
Lesson Study and Open Approach, followed by the conclusion of the workshop.
Participants included 139 school administrators and teachers from 22 schools under Northeast Institute for
ASEAN Teaching Profession Research and Development.
Another workshop under the cooperation of Institute for ASEAN Teaching Profession Research and
Development will be held in Srisaket in the Northeast on July 25-26, 2019.
