Khon Kaen University by ASEAN Teacher Profession Development and Research Institute held a workshop for southern schools at Taksin University, Songkhla


 On August 3-4, 2019, ASEAN Teacher Profession Development and Research Institute of Khon Kaen University and Center for Mathematics Education Research, Foundation of Education for Improvement of Thinking, and the Mathematics Education University Network held a workshop on the use of Lesson Study and Open Approach through the use of a new Mathematics textbook. The workshop was held at the Library of Taksin University, Songkhla.

 The activities on August 3 included the welcoming ceremony by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wichai Chamni, President of Taksin University; a talk on “Lesson Study and Open Approach by the use of a problem-based textbook”; “kyozai Kenkyu in Lesson Study and Open Approach” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Indaraprasith, Director of ASEAN Teacher Profession Development and Research Institute, President of Center for MatheBumatics Education Research, Chairman of Foundation of Education for Improvement of Thinking. In addition, there was a session for exchange of experiences of the speakers, Dr. Anek Sudjamnong and Dr. Ratchada Chowsetthakul, and Dr. Suttharat Bunlert from Faculty of Education of Suratthani Rajabhat University; Dr. Kasem Premprayoon and Dr. Suwannee Plianram from Faculty of Education of Taksin University.

 On August 4, 2019, activities included Open Class approach at Grade 1 Mathematics classroom on: deduction; finding a female hamster by Miss Ruthairat Khanket, a teacher from Wangdee School, Muang District, Songkhla. A team of experts in Lesson Study and Open Classroom observed the teaching and reflected what they thought at the end. That is the most important part of instruction and teacher profession development in Japan or the Lesson Study where all observers learn together.

 Then the participants exchanged experiences in school administration so that the Lesson Study and Open Approach can be used. Speakers included by Pol. Cpt. Ponthong Pengwongsa, Principal of Khukhamwittayasan School, Mr. Waiyakorn Yanachote, Principal of Banbuengniam buengkhrainun thahin school, the two prototype schools for the use of Lesson Study and Open Approach innovation from 2006 and 2007, respectively, and principals of schools under Srisaket innovation areas: Mr. Somrak Promnasuk from Bannonsaen Khamnongsala School and Mr. Chatchawan Bua-ngam from Banrungsombhoon School.
There were 165 participants who were teachers and school principals from 41 schools and the administration team of Taksin University. Experts were from the network universities.
