The opening ceremony of Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN
HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the official opening ceremony of the Institute for Research
and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN building and the monument of Chao Phraya Phra Sadet
Surendaradhibodi
December 3, 2019 at 16:50 hrs – the royal car of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn arrived in front of the
Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen.
Dr. Somsak Jangtrakoon, Khon Kaen Governor; Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., Acting
President of Khon Kaen Unersity; Dr. Tej Bunnak, Vice President of Khon Kaen University Council; Mr. Sirichai
Suvarnsaen, Khon Kaen Chief Judge; Deputy Chief of Army Region 2; Provincial Police Commissioner, Region 4;
officials and students lined in front of the building to welcome Her Royal Highness the Princess. Dr. Marumon
Intaraprasith, the wife of Director of Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN
presented a wrist garland to HRH.
HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, after gracefully seated, gave an audience to Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Maitree Intaraprasith, Director of Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN,
who presented to HRH a brochure, a textbook, and a teacher manual. Mr. Piyasak Pakkhothanang, Deputy
Director of Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN presented to HRH a
wooden Buddha Icon.
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., Acting President of Khon Kaen Unersity conveyed a
reporting speech to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, “The Institute for Research and Development in
Teaching Profession for ASEAN of Khon Kaen University is situated at a 4-storey reinforced concrete building
that was designed in the applied Thai and Colonial architectural style containing usage space of 3,011 square
meters. The institute has been built to serve the research and development of innovations related to teaching
profession development of Thailand. This is connected and correlated to the needs for teaching profession
development in ASEAN. The monument of Chao Phraya Phra Sadet Surendaradhibodi was constructed because
he had carried out a lot of work that benefits education, social sciences and humanities. He founded Thai
education and the development of teaching profession by establishing the present-day Guru Sapha or the
Teacher Council of Thailand.”
Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn next proceeded to the ceremonial pavilion and
pressed the button to open the cloth of the building name plate and another button to remove the cloth that
covered the monument of Chao Phraya Phra Sadet Surendaradhibodi. Then HRH the Princess placed the flower
tray and lit the candle and incense sticks to pay respect to the monument before walking around inside the
building to look at instructional innovations by the teachers and students in the project network. Next, Her
Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn had pictures taken with the governor, KKU President, members
of the institute and inscribed her name on the plate at the monument.
At 17:30 hrs, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn left the Institute for Research and
Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN by HRH car to stay overnight at Irrigation Region 6, Khon Kaen.
